Teeth Whitening (Bleaching)

Tooth Whitening

Teeth whitening is the process of cleaning the stains on the tooth surface that reach the aesthetically disturbing point and lightening the existing colour of the tooth. It is a treatment that can be applied quickly by dentists.

Teeth Whitening Methods

Different methods have been applied for teeth whitening until today and new methods are constantly being developed. Teeth that undergo discoloration due to reasons such as smoking, tea and coffee consumption lose their beautiful appearance over time. In such cases, there are methods that can be applied at home and in the clinic.

Home Tooth Whitening

It is suitable for use during the day. In the method applied with individually prepared plaques, the tooth whitening gel is applied to the tooth by placing the plaques on the tooth. On average, the whitening process is completed in 2 weeks.

Office Type Teeth Whitening

In this method, which can be applied in clinical environments, whitening gel is applied to the tooth and activated on the tooth surface with the help of UV light. This process, which takes approximately 20-30 minutes, should be applied by specialized physicians in clinics.

Combined Tooth Whitening

This method is based on home and office type supporting each other. The teeth whitening process applied in the clinical environment is supported by the method applied at home.

Things to Consider After Treatment

After the teeth whitening process, a sensitivity may occur in the teeth lasting approximately 2 to 5 days. For this reason, uncomfortable situations may occur in hot and cold food consumption. Apart from this,

– Tea and coffee should not be consumed immediately after the procedure.
– Smoking is the harmful habit that has the most effect on tooth discoloration. Stopping smoking after the procedure will significantly reduce the discoloration of the teeth in the following months.
– Consumption of coloured foods should also be avoided immediately after the procedure. Especially red coloured fruit juices and red wine should be avoided.
– The procedures applied for oral and dental health should be performed without interruption.

Teeth should be brushed twice a day and supported with dental floss and mouthwash.
Methods using baking soda and lemon, which are applied at home for teeth whitening and are common, can cause darkening of the teeth, unlike whitening. It may also cause the tooth enamel to scratch, making it more vulnerable to external factors.
